Decimation: X-Men - The Day After

Collects: Decimation: House of M - The Day After & X-Men, #177-181
Writer(s): Chris Claremont, Peter Milligan
Penciller(s): Salvador Larroca, Randy Green

In which we deal with the consequences of "No More Mutants" first hand. Again, there are a number of tie-in miniseries which form the Decimation logo on the spine, but I'm not covering / re-reading those.

Quick Synopsis
The first part of this is the Decimation: House of M - The Day After one shot by X-Men legend Chris Claremont which deals with the immediate fallout of M-day (the in universe name for the depowering of mutants due to the Scarlet Witch's "No More Mutants" in House of M) and is by far the superior part of the book

The rest picks up the tail end of Peter Milligan's run on X-Men which I was never a fan of. We deal with the love triangle of Iceman, Havok and Polaris which is made marginally more interesting because Iceman and Polaris are depowered. The arrival of Sentinal Squad O*N*E in "House Arrest" (X_Men #177-179) on the ground of Xavier's School to protect the X-Men is as well received as you'd expect.

In "What Lorna Saw" (X-Men #180-181) Havok and Polaris deal with a mystery dating back to I can't remember when, somewhere between #166 and #180 I guess. Anyway, apparently what she saw was an alien called Daap and we set up the next volume Blood of Apocalypse. Back at Xavier's, Mystique arrives with a sidekick intow whose mutant power means he can touch Mystique's (adopted) daughter Rogue, who at this time is dating Gambit.

Best Bit
Salvador Larroca's art.
